My Story

My journey into alternative health care began a long time ago, in my childhood. I come from a family tradition of using food and herbs as medicine, starting with my maternal grandmother. And as a sickly kid, I learned the hard way. My grandmother maintained a significant farm with a large garden with pasture-raised animals, so fresh, organic vegetables, fruits, eggs, milk, and meat was a norm year-round. As a matter of fact, I was around 9 the first time we had store-bought milk, for which we did not have the taste and protested loudly!

My mom, who worked as a chef for 25 years, used to ask me to put my hands on her when she would get home tired after a long day, even at a age of 6. She would always tell me that it made her feel better, but I did not really understand why. As I grew older, I started my attempts at massaging her shoulders, not really realizing the road I was paving for myself.

Fast-forward to December of 2001, when my whole family started chiropractic at Davenport Family Chiropractic in Watkinsville, GA. At the time, I has some occasional low back pain and headaches, which started significantly approving over a short period of time. What I really loved was the feeling I would get after an adjustment….my energy would shift, INSIDE AND OUT! And it was great! I always enjoyed going to the office, getting adjusted, engaging in interesting conversation about health with Dr. Jeff Davenport and Debe, and after a few months, I started as a new chiropractic assistant on staff.

Being a chiropractic assistant was more than a job; it was a privilege! Every day I had the opportunity to interact with wonderful people who were engaged in their own health and wanted to do it naturally without drugs or surgery! I enjoyed being there when the door opened and closed to greet and welcome every person, make them feel like they were in the right place and help with a kind word, guidance, and a smile. In summer of 2005, it became clear to me that I was ready to set out on the new path to become a chiropractor myself. Dr. Jeff had set such a wonderful example by his service, dedication, and commitment to helping people heal, and I felt called to follow his example!

In January of 2008, I started the Doctorate of Chiropractic program at Life University in Marietta, GA. That 4-year journey was anything but comfortable with thousands of classroom lecture and lab hours, hundreds of written and practical exams, countless study sessions at any given time of the day, hundreds of performed adjustments and clinical hours, the nerve-wrecking stresses of 5 portions of the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners exams, and more sweat and tears than ever imagined. On December 16, 2011 as I walked across the stage and took the Chiropractic Oath, this portion of the path expanded into a wide open road to the best yet to come!
